Press Release August 17, 2006

3rd Annual Peace Convention
Ordinary People, Extraordinary Heroes

Bay Area, CA: American Muslim Voice (AMV)  celebrates resilience and believes in non-violent solutions to achieve global peace. AMV strives to create a culture of peace, acceptance, mutual respect and harmony. It is in this spirit that we are delighted to introduce three people who turned their pain into something that heals and creates peace, rather than continuing the pointless cycle of violence.

They are ordinary people whose choices make them extraordinary heroes. They are working towards building peace in loving memories of their children.
While the world is focusing on today's political climate of blame, anger, division and hate, we would like you to join us to honor these extraordinary heroes.

When:  Sunday August 20th, 2006

Time:  11.00 am (Sharp) to 5.00 pm

Where:  Chandni Restaurant, Mowry School Road, Newark, CA 94560

Why:   To honor exceptional heroes and to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Sept 11.

Who:  The parents of a victim of the Sept. 11 attacks. A man who joined hands with the grandfather of the teen who killed his son. A lawyer who fights against the infringement of civil liberties every day. A Muslim teen who is victim of racial profiling at the hands of Davis, Ca police.  A man trying to support his son's decision, refusing to go back to fight an illegal war.  A mother and daughter rescued from Lebanon. A woman who is leading the charge to create national departments of peace around the world and a Muslim organization that has made its mission to form global partnerships to create culture of peace, acceptance, mutual respect and harmony in our world
