American Muslim Voice mourns loss of Dr. Edward Said

(Sept. 25, 2003) The American Muslim Voice today expressed its profound grief and sorrow at the demise of Prof. Edward Saeid, one of the best-known and respected Arab scholar.

Dr. Edward Said, Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University in New York City, expired in New York early today after a prolong illness.

Ms. Samina Faheem, the AMV Executive Director, said: The demise of Prof. Edward Said is a great loss to the American Muslim community as well as countless admirers of his writings and vision across the world.

“Dr Said, a tireless spokesman for the Palestinian cause in the West, will be remembered for his unyielding commitment to peace and reconciliation despite his hard-hitting critiques of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians.

The AMV offers heart-felt condolences to the grieved family of Dr. Edward Said during this difficult time.
