CHAM & AMV to host July 4 Solidarity Barbecue
Celebrate the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness!
CHAM (Community Homeless Alliance Ministry) and AMV (American Muslim Voice) are sponsoring a Fourth of July solidarity barbecue with the hungry, homeless, and all our friends this year. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4 at First Christian Church in San Jose.
Martin Luther King once pointed out that if people have no job or income, then they have neither life, nor liberty, nor the possibility for the pursuit of happiness. The spread of poverty and homelessness here in San Jose, the richest city in America, is a violation of our economic human rights. To abandon our poor is a mockery of what it means to be American.
We invite everyone to come and celebrate our unity, our love for one another, and our vision for a new America where our national wealth is justly distributed and the nightmare of poverty and homelessness is a thing of the past. We support social programs, but by themselves they will not end poverty. Only a broad social movement led by poor and working people can do that. Please join our effort to build one!
WE ARE AMERICA!
TIME: 11 A.M. TO 2 P.M. TUESDAY, JULY 4
PLACE: FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 80 S. FIFTH ST., SAN JOSE
We will be serving primarily chicken, green salad, beans, and potato salad. To volunteer or contribute food, please e-mail or call Sandy at 408-691-6153. Free holiday parking will be available on the street and in the Fourth Street Garage.
