PRESS RELEASE

September 25, 2003

Concerned authorities urged to show compassion
in Ms. Malak Mujaddidi’s case

American Muslim Voice is saddened to know the situation of the young Afghan woman, Malak Mujaddidi who is now under detention for some immigration law violation. This seems to be another case of victimization of a particular community in the current anti-Muslim bias after 9/11.

She deserves compassion and human consideration since she has no future in her homeland if the authorities decide to deport her. Malak came to US 22 years ago when she was only 15 years old.

If she is deported to Afghanistan, then her family will be split because her 9-year old child and American husband will not be able to accompany her due to the current situation in Afghanistan.

One can easily visualize the situation in Afghanistan where there is security, particularly for an American citizen.

We hope that concerned authorities will reconsider her case with compassion and use their discretion in her favor.
